About Our Program

Equality California’s LGBTQ+ Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Training is designed to empower service providers to provide respectful and culturally sensitive care to their LGBTQ+ population. Our curriculum discusses LGBTQ+ terminology, data on LGBTQ+ health disparities, intersectionality, best practices to create a welcoming environment, and more. To date, we have delivered training to over 3,000 service providers.

California has the strongest LGBTQ+ civil rights protections in the country, but lack of acceptance and inequitable access to education, employment, housing, and healthcare continue to fuel persistent disparities in LGBTQ+ health and wellbeing – especially for transgender and gender-nonconforming people, LGBTQ+ people of color, LGBTQ+ immigrant and LGBTQ+ people with disabilities.

29%

of transgender people report being refused care or harassed by medical professionals because of their gender identity.

4 in 10

youth experiencing homelessness in California identify as LGBTQ+.

50%

of students in California have been bullied because of their sexual orientations or gender identity.

Our Approach

Equality California Institute is addressing these issues through a multifaceted approach that educates and mobilizes both our community and the public, develops strong leaders and allies across sectors and facilitates understanding and acceptance of LGBTQ+ people. Our team is excited to connect with you and learn more about how we can support your efforts to improve the health and well-being of LGBTQ+ people and the diverse communities to which we belong.
